Missy Elliott had one of the top 10 rap tours of 2024.
In a report from Billboard, Elliott’s first-ever headlining tour came in at No. 6 on the list Top Rap Tours this year, according to Billboard Boxscore, a collection of charts that track the performance of tours and more. Alongside Elliott in the top 10 were three other women rappers: Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion at spots No. 2, No. 5 and No. 7, respectively.
The four also were in the top 100 of the all-genre Top Tours chart, with Minaj, Elliott, Doja and Megan coming in at Nos. 30, 70, 61 and 76, respectively.
As the outlet noted, this is the first time in Boxscore history that four women rappers have made it on the top 100 touring artist chart, as well as the first time male rappers have been outnumbered by their female counterparts on the all-genre list.
Although Billboard didn’t provide exact figures for how much Elliott profited from her tour, which was billed the “Out of This World” tour, back in September, Touring Data, which covers concert grosses, ticket sales and more, posted on X that Elliott grossed over $2 million for a single concert, which was at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C. The show, which was on August 8, 2024, is her highest-grossing concert of all time, according to Touring Data, which also noted that she’s the third female rapper to gross over $2 million in a single concert in U.S. history, having joined the likes of Doja and Minaj.
Earlier this year, Elliott’s manager, Mona Scott-Young, shared why the legendary rapper decided to embark on her first headlining tour.
“Well, we get offers constantly, which she goes, ‘Mmm, no, mmm, no.’ And a big part of it is because she has such an incredible imagination in terms of what she wants to see happen,” Scott-Young said in an interview with the Los Angeles Daily News. “I often say it’s like a spectacle. She doesn’t just step onto a stage. It’s got to be all the bells and whistles, because she comes from thinking that people pay good money, and they should get entertained.”
“For years, she had thought about Vegas. It would be an opportunity for her to plant herself in a space and build out whatever her mind can conceptualize. … And then one day she just called and said, ‘We should go on tour.’ I was like, ‘Oh, wait, we weren’t just going to be in Vegas? What happened to that?’” she continued. “But our partnership has always been, ‘You conceptualize it and I will figure out how to make it happen.’ And that’s where this crazy journey we’ve been on began.”
