One of Them Days has had multiple great days at the box office for its opening this past MLK weekend — so much so that it gave Disney’s Mufasa some competition.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Keke Palmer and SZA-led buddy comedy took the No. 2 spot on domestic box office charts, earning $14.2 million — more than what was expected. It was even in a “dead-heat with Mufasa” during the first three days it was out, the outlet noted. However, the Disney film, which is directed by Barry Jenkins and stars Beyoncé, Blue Ivy Carter and Donald Glover, took the top spot, earning an estimated $15.5 million.
Finishing behind Mufasa and One of Them Days was Wolf Man, a reboot of 1941’s The Wolf Man, at No. 3. According to Variety, Wolf Man was supposed to best both of the films, with the outlet reporting it was expected to open to $17 million to $21 million, compared to One of Them Days’ forecasted $8 million to $13 million.
However, that didn’t end up being the case, with Wolf Man getting an estimated $12.5 million for its four-day opening, according to the Reporter.
The success of One of Them Days adds to what is sure to be a notable year for SZA, with the S.O.S. singer embarking on a tour with former fellow TDE labelmate Kendrick Lamar that begins in April and concludes in June.
